LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY, 1/31/14

PSALM 119:105

Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

DANIEL 2:22

He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what
is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him.

JOHN 8:12

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am
the light of the world. He who follows Me shall
not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

HISTORICAL CONTEXT

The Lord talks about light in multiple Bible
verses. He tells us He that He is the Light
and that you are walking in the Light when
you follow Him. David,Daniel, and John were
followers of the Lord. They knew first hand
how walking with The Lord brings light into
your life.

David wrote more than 100 Psalms. There
are several Bible verses in which he sings
praisesunto the Lord because His Light has
enriched his life. He speaks of suffering and
how the Lord blessed him and answered his
prayers. Some of the Psalms have been used
as hymns. David is sometimes referred to as
the Chief Musician.  In Psalm 150 he tells us
to dance and use stringed instruments for the
praise and worship. He said " Let everything
that has breath praise the Lord".

Daniel had been blessed with the Lord’s
wisdom. He could interpret dreams. He
was called upon to interpret the dreams
of kings. He was a devout follower and
prayed three time a day.  Daniel even
refused to stop praying when a 30 day
no prayer decree was issued by the king.
He was thrown into the lion’s den by the
king for punishment. The Lord sent an
angel to save him from being eaten by
the lions. He was delivered from the evil
darkness and bought back in the Light of
the Lord.

John was one the twelve disciples and had
witnessed many healings and miracles. He
had seen men bought out of the darkness
of sin. He had witnessed the Light of life set
people free.

The Lord explained that when you commit sins
you fall into darkness. You have moved away
from His Light. It is not shining on you. The
Lord will always let you come back to His Light.
You admit that you have sinned, repent, and ask
for forgiveness.

LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY:

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE

I went to Vacation Bible School when I was young. The teacher taught us the song, This Little Light of Mine”. The adults thought it was so cute when our class sang this song during our church program. I
did not really know what , “this little light of mine,
I’m going to let it shine” meant. I enjoyed seeing
the adults clapping and eating the cookies we had after the program. The life lesson is that my light
will shine when I care about others, forgive them,
and spread love instead of hate.
