A SONG IN MY HEART, PART 4

Image
I am not a member of the church choir.  I can  carry a tune,  but prefer to sing in the shower  and car.  My mom can play the piano and likes  to sing hymns when she plays.None of my three siblings care about singing. I do not even recall hearing them even try to sing any songs. I learned when I was researching music and  singing in the Bible,  that the Lord sings too! ZEPHANIAH  3:17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” The Bible mentions specific people.who sang to the Lord. Here are some of them: JUDGES  5:1 Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying... JUDGES  5:12 “Awake, awake, Deborah! Awake, awake, sing a song! Arise, Barak, and lead your captives away, O son of Abinoam! 1 SAMUEL  18:6 ... that the women had come out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing...   2 SAMUEL  22: 1  Then

Nothing lifts my spirit more than hearing beautiful voices singing hymns and gospel music.  I often love listening to classical arias by Andrea' Bocelli.  I often pray that the singers take the lyrics they are singing seriously. It is a blessing to have a beautiful voice and sing about things you are passionate about. It is unfortunate that a lot of the  lyrics in hymns and gospel songs are taken for granted. The lyrics are for entertainment purposes only! There are several scriptures in the Bible  that informs us know that singing songs of exaltation was a part of some people's lives. Here are some of them: 1 CHRONICLES  13:8 Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets. 2 CHRONICLES  23:18 Also Jehoiada appointed the oversight of the house of the Lord to the hand of the priests,  the Levites, whom David had assigned in the ho

DEPICTION OF DAVID PLAYING THE HARP,  1670, BY JAN DE BRAY I have seen a lot movies about the Bible. Some of them showed the people dancing and playing instruments.  I used to think  this was Hollywood glamorizing the lives  of people in the Bible.  I learned from doing Bible Study that music  played a vital role in the lives of the people.  Archaeologist have found data written about music. Musical figurines and drums have been unearthed during archaeological digs. I was amazed that some of the instruments mentioned in the Bible are still used today.   The following scriptures describe the musical instruments in the Bible: DANIEL  3:15   Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery,  in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! PSALM 150: 3-5 3  Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! 4  Prai

PAINTING: DAVID PLAYS THE HARP FOR SAUL, REMBRANDT VAN RIJN, C. 165 I have always loved listening to music. It has helped me fight boredom, sadness,  and grief.  I discovered  in college that listening to classical music helped me retain data when I studied for tests. There are gospel singers who minister to people with their music. Some even say that music has healing powers. Greek Philosophers wrote that music could influence health and behavior. Records show that a doctor named Hippocrates used music when treating his patients. “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings  to the mind, flight to the imagination and  life to everything.” ― Plato The Bible book of Psalm mentions that David was a musician. He is author of Psalms.  Today, I'll share scriptures in  Psalm that discuss music. PSALM 49:4 4  I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will disclose my dark saying on the harp. PSALM 68:4   Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Extol Hi

THE GOOD OLD DAYS?!

Image
I grew up in a household that had rules. You respected your parents, elders, and  authority. You were expected to get good grades, do your chores and not be late for curfew. I was able to be with out approved friends that went to church and didn't have a bad reputation.I thought my parents were too strict. It wasn't long before I learned that some rules are a good thing. The teenagers I knew who could go and come as they liked were always in trouble.  God was not a forbidden three letter  word in my school. We said the pledge allegiance each morning in our class. Today, most people do not know what  manners are. Some have never heard, don't put your elbows on the table or  don't chew with your mouth open. The word etiquette is  foreign to them.  Some household let the children run things  because the parents want to be their friends. A few years ago, the TV was a babysitter for young children. Now, it's the cell phones, lap tops,

I WANT TO SOW GOOD SEED!

Image
I grew up in the city and didn't know a lot about farming.I would visit my cousins who lived in the  rural part of our county. They worked in tobacco  fields during the summer. They used their money to buy new school clothes. Their earnings helped  the family since my uncle had 5 teenagers which ranged from age 13 to 18! I remember my Sunday school teacher discussing sowing good behavior. The good children got an  extra treat. I attended Bible Study and it became clearer how important reaping and sowing was to God.The Bible talks a lot about reaping and sowing.  Sometime the reaping and sowing is literal when it is talking about planting seed and harvest time. The Bible also discusses reaping and sowing as relates to your behavior.  I am concerned with the reaping and sowing in the figurative sense. My mom told us that we would get a treat if we acted nice and was obedient.Today, I'm  sharing some scriptures that explain how reaping and sowing relates to y

I feel embarrassed every time I see  or hear a report that shows some  Americans dishonoring our Veteran's.  I know it's not Veteran's Day, but I felt like honoring them with this poem today!!

WE PRAYED & THEY DIED!

Image
I was watching Christian TV recently and a man was saying that he was mad at God. His wife became ill and he and his  church members sent up fervently prayers. He had faith and his wife still got worse. Emergency surgery had to be done and the doctor said  that her heart stopped beating during their surgical procedure. She did not respond to  their attempts to resuscitate her. He was so angry and confused.  He became depressed for several months.   I lost my only  sister when she was 24 years old. The doctors thought she had the flu.The autopsy determined that she had died due to a cancerous  pituitary gland tumor.  My life was turned upside down. My sister lived a mile from me and we saw  each other daily. I was not a Christian at the time but we attended church on the Sundays that she didn't go to work. My family was devastated and I grieved for a few year.  My mother still avoids  going down the street she lived on.  It is true that you grieve less
