After college, I volunteered at a  Women's Center. I was trained to  referrals. I had to give homeless  the name, address, and telephone number of shelters in the area. I  was surprised at the number of   calls I received. Most of the women  had small children. Some of the local shelters didn't accept children. I never liked going to large family picnics and family reunions when I was young. I liked eating the tasty  meals that my relatives prepared.  But   I felt awkward trying to be  friendly to long lost cousins. I'm much older now, and realize the importance of staying connected to  family members.   I now enjoy traveling  to new destinations for family reunions. I've even helped in researching our family tree. I regret that I missed some golden opportunities. I should have gotten oral histories from the older family members.
