THERE IS HOPE FOR THE SICK! LEPROSY

SPINALONGA IN EUROPE-LEPROSY COLONY CLOSED IN 1957

There is hope for people who are sick. The scriptures in the Bible talk about  people who had great faith and believed in our Lord Jesus.

As a review, I have discussed people who were infertile, blind, deaf, and paralyzed.  They all had
faith and were healed.
Today, I'll discuss people in the Bible who had
leprosy. It is an infectious disease that causes
severe skin sores and nerve damage in the
arms and legs.

There is usually permanent deformities in the arms and legs.  People who had the disease were separated from the public.  The area where they were
quarantine to was called a leprosy colony.  These people were often  shunned and treated as outcasts. This disease is still present in our society today. The World Health Organization reports that there are 180,000 in the world today with leprosy. There are medications

available now for leprosy.

There was no cure for leprosy during Bible days.
The people with leprosy were considered unclean. They could not mingle with the public unless the
priest declared them clean and free of signs of leprosy. The lepers felt that Jesus wouldn't shun
them and believed He could heal them.

LIFE LESSON:

JESUS TOUCHED THE LEPER AND HE WAS
CLEANSED FROM LEPROSY.

MATTHEW 8:2-4

And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make
me clean.”
Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately
his leprosy was cleansed.
And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one;
but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and
offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

LUKE 5:13-15

13 Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him.
14 And He charged him to tell no one, “But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded.”
15 However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.

LIFE LESSON:

JESUS SPOKE AND  LEPERS WAS CLEANSED.

MARK 1:40-45

42 As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.
43 And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once,
44 and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
45 However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.

LUKE 17:11-14

11 Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.
13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.

LIFE LESSON:

ONE OF THE LEPERS SHOWS HIS GRATITUDE.
THE OTHERS DID NOT!

LUKE 17:15-19

15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,
16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.
17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”
19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
