JOHN 17:17

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.


3 JOHN  1:4

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

  

HISTORICAL CONTEXT

There is one undeniable fact that is evident in the Bible. The Lord represented truth.  His Word is the truth. His followers knew that He did not lie.

He is able to discern when people are lying to Him.
In the Bible book of Genesis tell us about Adam and
Eve's dilemma.  They had to admit to the Lord that
they had disobeyed Him. They had eaten from the
forbidden tree.  Cain killed Abel and avoided telling
the truth. The Lord asked him about his brother. He
would only reply, "Am I my brothers keeper".  The
Bible books  of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tells
us about how  Peter denied knowing Jesus 3 times.
The Bible book of John talks about Samaritan woman
at the well who said that she had no husband.  Jesus
told her that she had been married five times and was
not married to the man she was living with.  There are
scriptures in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation that
gives examples of people lying or discuss the negative
consequences of  telling lies.  The Lord even tells us
that satan is a liar and that he is the father of  it.
 

 LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY:

CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH?


I am beginning to wonder if today's society
can handle the truth. A lot of people have
taken countless alarming pictures of people
engaging in criminal behavior. Some of these
pictures are used in court. The pictures show
the crime in graphic detail. Sometimes the jury
still doesn't convict the person who committed
the crime. A hung jury prevents the criminal
from going to prison.  I stare in disbelief and
try to figure what happened. It wasn't too long
ago that we had to fight for the victim's rights.
Does our society even understand what morals,
decency, honesty, truth, and compassion even
mean any more?

DEPICTION OF ADAM & EVE WITH THEIR CHILDREN I say thank you to PBS for featuring TV shows  on researching your family tree by Heny Louis Gates, Jr.  The show was called, "Finding Your Roots". I enjoyed this show and and eventually became very good at family tree research. Genealogy was important during Bible days and the Bible book of Genesis gives us several family trees.
