MOTIF:  SODOM &  GOMORRAH FROM NUREMBERG CHRONICLE

BY HARTMANN SCHEDEIL, 1493

MOUNT SODOM, ISRAEL, LOT'S WIFE PILLAR

One of my aunts lived in my neighborhood. She was also a school teacher.  She used always tell us when we were bad,  "God doesn't like ugly!"   My parents also punished us when we were bad. I learned early that being bad and disobeying was not good. There were consequences!!

This week I will look at a few people in the Bible who disobeyed God.  I'll share scriptures which will show  the  consequences of their sin.

Today, I'll share scriptures about Lot and his
wife. They lived in the wicked city of Sodom
and Gomorrah.

LIFE LESSON:

ABRAHAM ASKED THE LORD NOT TO DESTROY
THE RIGHTEOUS WITH THE WICKED.

GENESIS: 18:22-23, 32-33

22 Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord.
23 And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

32 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?”
And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.”
33 So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

LIFE LESSON:

THE LORD SEND TWO ANGELS TO DESTROY THE CITIES SODOM AND GOMORRAH. THEY TELL LOT
THAT HE NEEDS TO TAKE HIS FAMILY AND FLEE

 GENESIS 19:1, 12-13

1Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom.  When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.

12 Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place!
13 For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.”

LIFE LESSON:

LOT ASKS IF HE AND HIS FAMILY CAN ESCAPE
TO CITY IF ZOAR. THEY WERE TO FLEE WITH
OUT LOOKING BACK TO SEE WHAT WAS
HAPPENING TO SODOM & GOMORRAH.

GENESIS 19:18-25

18 Then Lot said to them, “Please, no, my lords!
19 Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die.
20 See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.”
21 And he said to him, “See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.
22 Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there.”Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar.
24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

LIFE LESSON:

LOT'S WIFE DISOBEYS AND LOOKS BACK.
CONSEQUENCES OF HER SIN: TURNED TO
PILLAR OF SALT.

GENESIS 19:26

26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

LUKE 17:30-32

30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man
is revealed.
31 “In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back.
32 Remember Lot’s wife.
