WHAT ABOUT THOSE STRIPES?

I know Easter is over now, but just one
more thing! I was thinking about the
word, "stripes."  I read that Jesus 
received 39-40 stripes. This is a lot and
probably more than most men could endure.

But I figured there was a reason Jesus
was beaten 39-40 times. I did some research and it revealed that this was 
the custom in Bible days:


Deuteronomy 25:1-3

1 “If there is a dispute between men, and they
come to court, that the judges may judge them..
2 Then it shall be, if the wicked man deserves to be beaten, that the judge 
will cause him to lie down and be beaten in his presence, according to his guilt, with a certain number of blows.
3 Forty blows he may give him and no more, lest he should exceed this and beat him with many blows above these, and your brother be humiliated in your sight.

2 Corinthians 11:24   


From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.


 
LIFE LESSON:



I began to realize that "THE CUP" Jesus
TOOK blessed His children in many ways:

MARK 14:35-36


35 He went a little farther, and fell on
the ground, and prayed that if it were
possible, the hour might pass from Him.
36 And He said, “Abba, Father, all things
are possible for You. Take this cup away
from Me; nevertheless, not what I will,
but what You will.”


LUKE 22:41-43


41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt 
down and prayed.
42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”
43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.
44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became
like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.


He BLESSED them with SALVATION & HEALING!

They were SAVED when they:

Believed that He died on the cross for
their sins.

Believed in His Resurrection.

They were HEALED by the STRIPES He suffered at CALVARY!

These scriptures were my confirmation:


JOHN 3:14-17

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in
the wilderness, even so must the Son of
Man be lifted up.
15 that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but
have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the
world to condemn the world, but that the
world through Him might be saved.



Acts 16:31

So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”


Romans 10:9


That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.



Isaiah 53:5

But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities; 
The chastisement for our peace was
upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.


1 Peter 2:24

Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died
to sins, might live for righteousness—
by whose stripes you were healed.


I believe the WORDS in the BIBLE
are TRUE. I believe in JESUS, HIS 
DEATH & RESURRECTION. I do not
waste my time arguing with anyone
who does not BELIEVE! A person's 
conviction is between him/her and 
JESUS!
