THE BIBLE & CHRISTMAS!
The Annunciation by Eustache Le Sueur, The Angel Gabriel announces to Mary her pregnancy with Jesus
During the Christmas season, I try to read daily scriptures that focus on the birth of Jesus. I find that this is a necessary pursuit since a lot of the Christmas movies on TV and the web never mention the birth of Jesus. This helps me never lose focus on the real reason for Christmas. The essence of buying gifts and toys, meal planning, and attending
Christmas parties can also distract me if I'm not careful.
I'll be sharing some of the scriptures I have been studying during this Christmas season.
TODAY'S KEYWORDS: FEAR NOT
MATTHEW 1: 20
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
LUKE 1: 5, 7, 13, 28-31
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
7 And they had no child because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
28 And the angel came in unto her (MARY), and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
LUKE 2: 8-12
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
