During my Bible study, I have noticed most of the fathers had strict rules about who their sons married. As a matter of fact, sometimes the father selected the woman that their son married.
 
The religious practices of the people were very important in Bible days. The Lord also forbid the marriages between people from certain regions. Some of these groups worshiped idols or other gods.

I came across these scriptures during my Bible study:

1 CORINTHIANS 10: 14-15

14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves
what I say.

Now I understand why I am to be wise and
avoid things which promote idol worship.

Today I’m sharing some scriptures that concern commands given to some of the Israelites.

WHERE DOES YOU WIFE COME FROM?

 

GENESIS 24:37

Now my master made me (ISAAC) swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my 
son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell;



GENESIS 28: 1, 6-9

1 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him: “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.
 
6 Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob
and sent him away to Padan Aram to take himself a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,”
7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to Padan Aram.
8 Also Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please his father Isaac.
9 So Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, 
to be his wife in addition to the wives
he had.

 

DEUTERONOMY 7: 1-6


1 “When the Lord your God brings you (ISRAELITES) into the land which you go 
to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you.
2 And when the Lord your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.
3 Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son.
4 For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly.
5 But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images and burn their carved images with fire.
6 “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.

MARITAL RULES FOR PRIESTS


LEVITICUS 21:7 


They ( LEVITE PRIESTS) shall not take a
wife who is a harlot or a defiled woman, nor shall they take a woman divorced from her husband; for the priest is holy to his God.


EZEKIEL 44:22

They ( LEVITE PRIESTS) shall not take as
a wife a widow or a divorced woman, but take virgins of the descendants of the house of Israel, or widows of priests.

CALLED BY THE LORD, PART 6

The Lord may require  some people to carry out a special task.There will be others that may be required to minister His Word and  travel around the world as a missionary.      This week I'll share scriptures about different men  and women that were called by the Lord. Some of these people were rebellious and did not want to answer His call.  All eventually did the Lord's will. Today, I will share scriptures which discuss that the Lord CALLED a man named Jonah.  He did not want to answer the Lord's call and ran away.  There were consequences to Jonah's actions.
