DON'T MARRY THAT WOMAN! #2
http://www.womeninthebible.net
During my Bible study, I
have noticed most of the fathers had strict rules about who their sons married.
As a matter of fact, sometimes the father selected the woman that their son
married.
There were times when the
sons disobeyed their fathers and God. They boldly chose the woman they
wanted to marry.
Today, I am sharing scriptures
that discuss disobedient men and the consequences of their decision.

LIFE
LESSON:
SOME
DISOBEDIENT MEN IN THE BIBLE
SAMSON
JUDGES 13: 2-5
2 Now there was a
certain man from Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was
Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children. 3 And
the Angel of the Lord appeared to
the woman and said to her, “Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no
children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.
4 Now therefore,
please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and not to eat
anything unclean.
5 For behold, you
shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the
child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver
Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”
JUDGES 14: 1-3, 15
1 Now Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a
woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.
2 So he went up and told his father and
mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the
Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife.”
3 Then his father and mother said to
him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your brethren, or among
all my people, that you must go and get a wife from the uncircumcised
Philistines?”15 But it came to pass on the seventh day that they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may explain the riddle to us, or else we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us in order to take what is ours? Is that not so?”
JUDGES 15:1-2
1 After
a while, in the time of wheat harvest, it happened that Samson visited his wife
with a young goat. And he said, “Let me go in to my wife, into her
room.” But her father would not permit him to go in.
2 Her father said,
“I really thought that you thoroughly hated her; therefore I gave her to your
companion. Is not her younger sister better than she? Please, take her
instead.”
JUDGES 16: 4-5, 18-22, 30
4 Afterward it
happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was
Delilah.
5 And the lords of
the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and find out where
his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him,
that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven
hundred pieces of silver.”
19 Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him.
20 And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!”
21 Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.
22 However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven.
30 Then Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” And he pushed with all his might, and the temple fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than he had killed in his life.

DEPICTION OF ONE OF SOLOMON'S WIVES

LIFE LESSON:
SOLOMON DISOBEYS THE LORD
1 KINGS 11: 1-4,
9-13, 33
1 But King Solomon
loved many foreign women,as well as the
daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians,
and Hittites—
2 from the nations of
whom the Lord had said to the children of Israel,
“You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you.
Surely they will turn away your hearts
after their gods.”
Solomon clung to these
in love.
3 And he had seven
hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred
concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.
4 For it was so, when
Solomon was old, that
his wives turned his heart after other gods;
and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the
heart of his father David.
5 For
Solomon went after Ashtoreth the
goddess of the Sidonians,and
after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
9 So the Lord became
angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from
the Lord God of Israel, who had appeared to him
twice.
10 And had commanded
him concerning this thing, that he
should not go after other gods; but he did not
keep what the Lord had commanded.
11 Therefore the Lord
said to Solomon, “Because you have done this, and have
not kept My covenant and
My statutes,
which I have
commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and
give it to your servant.
12 Nevertheless I
will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David; I
will tear it out of the hand of your son.
13 However I will not
tear away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son
for the sake of My servant David, and
for the sake of
Jerusalem which I have chosen.”
33
because they have forsaken Me, and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of
the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the
people of Ammon, and have not walked in My ways to do what is right in
My eyes and keep My statutes and My judgments, as did his father
David.

Horace Vernet:
Jeremiah on the ruins of Jerusalem (1844)
The
Lord gave the prophet Jeremiah
rules about marriage. He was
also given
the prophesy of what would happen to disobedient Israelites. The scriptures
below only discuss the rules for marriage.
LIFE
LESSON:
RULES GIVEN TO JEREMIAH
JEREMIAH 16:1-3
1 The word of the Lord also came to me, saying,
2 “You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or
daughters in this place.”
3 For thus says the Lord
concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their
mothers who bore them and their fathers who begot them in this land.
