DEPICTION: CAIN & ABEL, BRITISH LIBRARY
I heard the Bible story
about Cain and
Abel for the first time in Sunday school.
I thought Cain was a bad boy because he killed his
brother. As an adult, I heard
sermons
about Cain being very upset because God didn’t accept his offering.
I’m reading 4th
Chapter of Genesis, and
a murder as happened! I marveled at how
evil has been in the world since Creation.
I read why Cain
was angry but I didn’t really understand why his offering was
unacceptable.
I did a detailed Bible study on Cain and Abel. This week I'm sharing my thoughts about them.
PATRIARCH
ABEL, ARTIST: THEOPHANES, THE GREEK
LIFE LESSON:
THE ABEL CONNECTION
ABEL, THE SHEPHERD
GENESIS 4:2
Then
she (EVE) bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now
Abel was a keeper of sheep…
ABEL’S
OFFERING
GENESIS 4:4
Abel
also brought of the firstborn of
his flock and of their fat. And the Lord
respected Abel and his offering.
ABEL’S DEATH
GENESIS 4:8 & 10
8 Now Cain
talked with Abel his brother;
and it came to pass, when they were in
the field, that Cain rose up against Abel
his brother and killed him.
10 And He (GOD)
said, “What have you
(CAIN) done? The voice of (ABEL) your brother’s blood
cries out to Me from the ground.
ABEL’S
FAITH
HEBREWS 11:4
By faith Abel offered
to God a more
excellent sacrifice than Cain, through
which he
obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his
gifts;
and through it he being dead still speaks.
