ROMANS  16:1-2 1  I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea,  2  that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also. HISTORICAL CONTEXT There is not a lot of information given about  this woman named Phoebe.  Paul was very  impressed by her kindness and  service in the church.  She traveled several miles to  Rome to deliver a letter from Paul. Phoebe must have been trustworthy and a woman who had outstanding character. Paul chose her to conduct his business in Rome. LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY I have always liked to be around kind people.  I  feel that I  can trust them with my deepest  thoughts and it would remain confidential. I have a lot of friends but only know a couple  that are very kind.  I know that they would  try to come to my aide in any situation. The

MATTHEW 8:3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.   MATTHEW 20: 32-34 32  So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 33  They said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened."   34 S o Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him. MARK 8:22, 25 22 Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.  25  Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. HISTORICAL CONTEXT People in the near by towns had  heard about  Jesus.  They were in awe of His miracles and healings.  Multitudes of people were following Jesus every where he went.  Some of the people  he healed with his touch were a leper and blind men.   LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY I found

GENESIS 8:22 “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and  night shall not cease.” 2 SAMUEL 23: 13 Then three of the thirty chief men went down at harvest time and came to David at the cave of Adullam. HISTORICAL CONTEXT God  told Noah and his family to come out of the ark. Noah came and out the ark and built an altar  unto the Lord.  God said that he would not destroy the earth again. The earth will always have day and night. There are many scripture references to the harvest time in the Bible.  The Bible books  include Joshua 3, Judges 15, Proverbs 25, Jeremiah 50  and 51, Matthew 13, and Revelation 14.         LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY I always thought that farmers exercise more faith  than most people. They spend lot of money and  man hours planting seeds and crops every year.    Some farmers pray a lot and others put their faith  in the Moon, and the Farmer's Almanac. The web website for the Farmer's Alman

PSALM 118:6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?  PSALM 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me LUKE 2:8-10 8  Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  9  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. ' 10  Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. HISTORICAL CONTEXT Most of the people we read about in the Bible lived simple lives and were not royalty. Most of the men were farmers and shepherds.  Of course, we know  about a famous carpenter too.  The Bible books of Matthew, Luke, and John give several accounts of people being afraid when they had supernatur

1 JOHN 4:19-21   19  We love Him because He first loved us. 20  If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God  whom he has not seen?   21  And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must   love his brother also PSALM 127: 3-5 3  Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord , The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4  Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. 5  Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate. Matthew 10:28-31 28  And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.   29  Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.   30  But the very hairs of your head

PHILIPPIANS 4:11-12 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be  content:  12  I know how to be abased, and I know how  to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both  to abound and to suffer need.   HISTORICAL CONTEXT Paul was talking to the Philippians. He was telling them that they should   be content with what they have. Paul was telling them this because he had   experienced wealth and poverty. He  knew that discontentment can lead to sin.  LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY: "DON'T KEEP WHAT WITH THE JONES "! I used to hear my parents say, "Our  neighbors are trying to keep up with the Jones". I had no idea what they  were talking about. I could not ask  for an explanation.  My parents told   me and my siblings not to interrupt when "grown folks were talking"! My   eave sdropping would have gotten me   into trouble anyw
