PAINTING: CHRIST BEFORE CAIAPHAS
BY MATTHIAS STOM
* PLOT TO KILL JESUS
MATTHEW 26:1-5
1 Now
it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said
to His disciples,
2 “You know that after
two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be
crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at
the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,4 and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him.
5 But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”

LUKE 22:14-16, 19-20
14 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.
15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

* JUDAS' BETRAYAL
MARK 14:10-11
10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them.11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.
MATTHEW 26:15
And said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.
3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.”
And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!”
5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.
41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed.
42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”
43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.
44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
