HOLY WEEK! #3
DEPICTION: JEWISH HIGH PRIEST (WWW.INNER.ORG)
I discovered something during my Bible
study of the crucifixion. Some Jewish high priests
thought Jesus was becoming too powerful. He was getting too many followers. This let to the plot to kill Jesus.
I think
the several incidents were instrumental in causing
the high
priests to plot to kill Jesus.
LIFE LESSON:
WHY DID THE HIGH PRIEST DISLIKE JESUS?
DEPICTION: JESUS & LAZARUS IN THE TOMB
1JESUS
RAISED LAZARUS FROM THE DEAD
JOHN
12:9-11
9 Now a
great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they
came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that
they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised
from the dead.
10 But
the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,
11
because on account of him many of the Jews went away and
believed in Jesus.
2 JESUS & THE MONEY CHANGERS
JOHN
2:14-16, 18-20
14 And
He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money
changers doing business.
15 When
He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the
sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the
tables.
16 And
He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My
Father’s house a house of merchandise!”
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show
to us, since You do these things?”
19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and
in three days
I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build
this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”
3 JESUS
HEALED ON THE SABBATH
JOHN 5:
8-10, 16
8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”
9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and
walked.
And that day was the Sabbath.
10 The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the
Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.
16 For this reason the Jews persecuted
Jesus, and sought to kill Him,
because He had done these things on the Sabbath.
4 JESUS SAID GOD WAS HIS FATHER
JOHN 5: 17-18
18 Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
