HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The actions taken by the Isaiah, Mary,
Joseph, the wise men, the shepherds,
and King Herod show that Jesus was
not an ordinary baby. His birth was
foretold in the Old Testament and the
prophesy was fulfilled in the New
Testament. Angels appeared to
Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds
and they believed their report. The
baby was holy and His name had
already been selected. King Herod
was a Jewish King. Herod was
upset by a baby being called the
"King of the Jews" He believed the
wise men's story. He demanded
that all Jewish babies under the
age two be killed because he
didn't know where baby Jesus
was located.

the child will be called Immanuel.
Luke 1 stated the baby should be
called Jesus. Immanuel means,
God with us. In Mathew 28 Jesus
tells His disciples, "I am with you
always". Immanuel and Jesus can
mean, " God with us". As a matter
of fact, the Bible reveal that Jesus
is known by more than 50 names.
Isaiah 55 tells us that God's thoughts
and ways are not like ours. My daily
goal to Meditate on His Word. His
truth is revealed to me as I study His
word precept upon precept.
