LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY, 1/17/14
1 KINGS 18:13
Was it not reported to my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord...
1 KINGS 19:2-3
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also,
if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.”
3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs
to Judah, and left his servant there.
1 KINGS 21: 7, 15, 23
7 Then Jezebel his wife said to him, “You now exercise authority over Israel! Arise, eat food, and
let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”
15 And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that
Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite,
23 And concerning Jezebel the Lord also spoke, saying, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the
wall of Jezreel.’
2 KINGS 9:32-36
32 And he looked up at the window, and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” So two or three
eunuchs looked out at him.
33 Then he said, “Throw her down.” So they threw her down,
and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her
underfoot
34 And when he had gone in, he ate and drank. Then he said, “Go now, see to this accursed
woman, and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.”
35 So they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the
palms of her hands.
36 Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, “This is the word of the Lord, which
He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ‘On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs
shall eat the flesh of Jezebel;
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The Bible book of 1 Kings 18, 19, and 21 do not paint a pretty picture of Jezebel.
She was a ruthless and evil woman. She persecuted God's people. She had
Naboth killed because he would not sell his vineyard to her husband. She could
have been the ruler instead of her husband, Ahab. She incited Ahab to do evil.
2 Kings 9 shows us that God was not pleased with her evil ways. She died a
gruesome death. Ahab died as a result of battle wounds.
LIFE LESSON FOR TODAY
I have often heard older women call certain women, That Jezebel".
I didn't realize it was not good to be referred to as a Jezebel until
I did a Bible study on her. She was a "Piece Of Work!" I learned
that doing evil acts will put your life in jeopardy. Evil doers will
eventually experience a violent death!!
