ARE YOU WISER THAN AN ANT?

The Anointing of Solomon by CORNELIS DE VOS (c. 1630)
I heard a nursery
rhyme when I was in elementary school about " the wise old owl!" I always wondered how did my teacher know an
owl was wise!
I had never given
much thought to animal
behavior until I
started watching nature shows. The natural instinct God put in animals is amazing! The time and money spent on producing shows
about animals proves that their behavior is worth studying.
During my Bible study
I discovered that some creatures were considered to be wise!
PROVERBS 30:24
There are four things
which are little on the earth, but they are
exceedingly wise.
The scriptures
mentioned four creatures.
There might be more than
four creatures
that are considered wise. I don't plan to
argue with Solomon's or the Bible's definition of
wisdom.
1 KINGS 3:10, 12
10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
12 Behold,
I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and
understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before
you, nor shall
any like you arise after you.
Here are some
scriptures in the Bible about
wise creatures:
ANT

PROVERBS 6:6
Go to the ant, you
sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise.
PROVERBS 30:25
The ants are a people
not strong, Yet they prepare their food in the summer.
ROCK BADGER

PSALM 104: 18
The high hills are
for the wild goats;
The cliffs are a
refuge for the rock badgers
PROVERBS
30:26
The rock badgers are
a feeble folk,
Yet they make their
homes in the crags
(rocky areas).
LOCUST

Exodus 10:12
Then the Lord said to
Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the
locusts, that they may come upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of
the land—
all that the hail has left.”
all that the hail has left.”
JOB 39:20
Can you frighten him
like a locust? His majestic snorting strikes terror.
PSALM 78:46
He also gave their
crops to the caterpillar, And their labor to the locust.
PROVERBS 30:27
The locusts have no
king,
Yet they all advance
in ranks.
SPIDER
JOB 8:14
Whose confidence
shall be cut off, And whose trust is a spider’s web.
PROVERB 30:28
The spider skillfully grasps with its hands,
And it is in kings’
palaces.
ISAIAH 59:4-6
4 No one calls for
justice,
Nor does any plead
for truth.
They trust in empty
words and speak lies;
They conceive evil
and bring forth iniquity.
5 They hatch vipers’
eggs and weave the spider’s web;
He who eats of their
eggs dies,
And from that which
is crushed a viper breaks out.
6 Their webs will not
become garments,
Nor will they cover
themselves with their works;
Their works are works
of iniquity,
And the act of
violence is in their hands.
